Nice picture :) The style you drew this in reminds me of the way characters are drawn in Walter Moers' books. Really cool looking.

Villains are by far always the most interesting characters (especially if they are voiced by Steve Buscemi) ;)

He's NOT the bad guy. Waternoose is the real villain. You don't know how much it ticks me off that the old man is looked at as the "loving grandfatherly type" when it was his plan all along (he actually INTENDED harm to Boo and others) and Randall became the slapstick of the century (!)- from getting thrown into the trash shoot and coming out sliced and diced in the Tokyo "Ride and Seek" to being painted on a wheel in one of their parades so it seemed like he was being simultaneously and comically CRUSHED! AND THIS WAS FOR HUMOR!!! Well, I'm not laughing -_-;
Plus, Randall was ILLEGALLY banished by Sulley and Mike at the end of the movie to a place they INTEND him to be killed. He was thrown into a trailer located in Louisiana where people EAT gators. The woman who bashed him with a shovel wasn't trying to get him out of her house. She was trying to EAT him!
The reason why Randall seemed so "edgy" in the film was because of his sleep deprivation. He had worked (for more than two years) on the Scream Extractor, devoting longs nights, lunch periods, holidays, and every spare minute. Because of this, he also lost a tremendous amount of weight (as you can, at many times of the film, see his ribs and his backbone). It's also probable that he took energy pills to stay up.
In addition to that, the film never gave any evidence that Randall had any hatred towards Boo. One thing you should keep in mind is that Randall, LIKE OTHER MONSTERS, didn't view humans as sentiments. They thought the kids were as toxic and deadly as a nuclear column rolling out of the factory. Mike is a PERFECT example of this. First, his ideas consist of "giant air-balloon" "an enormous slingshot" "releasing [Boo] into the wild" and leading her through the wrong door with a pencil to lure "it"- ideas on how quickly he can dispose of her. He treated Boo far worse than Randall ever did. When Randall places her into the chair, he checks her restraints to make sure she doesn't hurt herself. When Waternoose gives the orders to "Finish them off" and "There can't be any witnesses", notice how Randall tries not to hurt Boo the entire time.
To add on to that, in the door vault scene where Randall finally got a hold of Boo, she starts to flail and slip. Noticing that she's going to fall, Randall pulls her closer to him. Does this sign of affection seem evil to you? Many people don't stop to think what Randall would do with Boo once he got her, other than "Oh, he's evil, so he's gonna do some evil thing." Randall couldn't go back to the machine because Sullivan had destroyed it, the CDA were around the entire building, so what do you think he'd do? His options were either A- He could drop the kid and get the whole thing over with, or B- He was taking her to her door!
And then, Waternoose double-crosses Randall, taking back Boo's door and telling the CDA to arrest anyone who came out of the the door vault. The crab is blaming the ENTIRE thing on Randall. It also makes you wonder how Waternoose knew to get Boo's door. If the crab's plan had worked out, Mike, Sullivan, and Boo would all be dead and Randall would come back. But how did Waternoose know to call Boo's door, specifically? Did he already have the impression that Randall might have had a soft side for the kid? As much as to take her back to her door?
Randall also had no reason to believe that Boo meant anything to Sullivan, until the very few seconds of the end. He thought that Sullivan and Mike were using her to get him arrested for personal agendas.
And yet, even though Mike and Sullivan took the laws into their own hands for revenge (which at times can actually be a felony), they're STILL looked upon as HEROES! While those two have their glory, Randall is left for dead, bashed, blamed, and molded into the symbol of evil, despite context clues proving otherwise.

If any character I dislike, it'd be Mike. While he does provide comic relief in the film, the way he treats Randall (and others as well) is unacceptable.
1: Mike's somewhat racist or ignorant attitude towards Randall. It gives off the impression that Mike thought Randall was the scum of the earth from the get-go. Reptiles seem to be a minority of the Monsters World. Mike insults him by calling Randall "Lizard Boy." This is obviously derogatory from Mike. He can't take a small prank that Randall played on him. Employees do this to each other all the time. When someone jokes with Mike, he often throws back an insult.
Example: Mike: You're gonna see this face a lot more often, pal.
Sulley: Like what? On Monstropolis's most wanted list?
Mike: (sarcastically) ha ha ha. You've just been jealous of me since the fourth grade.

Another Example: (after prank)
Randall: What do you know? It scares little kids AND little monsters.
Mike: It'll be...[even more]...humiliating...[to you]...when we break the record first! HA HA!

You get my point.

2: Mike thinks Randall forever as a cheater
Once Mike finds out from Sullivan that he saw Randall late at the factory, Mike just IMPLIES that Randall MUST be cheating, even though- 1: the canister was NOT connected to the door and 2: Mike wasn't even there in the FIRST PLACE!

3: And finally, even after Randall is (illegally!) banished, Mike continues to ruin Randall's life, making him the symbol and impression of evil in the Monster World (evidence found in the company play= Mike scripts Randall's part as being so evil and his part as being so heroic and righteous that this (horrible) misguiding scheme to stroke his inflated ego causes the monsters to automatically think of Randall as a 2-D "born evil, live evil, die evil" villain). Of course, it makes me wonder what lie Mike used to cover up their felony of banishing Randall in the first place.

If the sequel is sure to come on November 17, 2012, then the only scenarios will be these:

1. Randall won't appear or even be mentioned. Pixar will create another person for Mike and Sulley to beat up/defeat.

2. Randall will become the 2-D boring villain out for revenge with no point in being evil except just for the sake of it (WhatTheHeck!?). I would expect this to come out of a Saturday morning cartoon, but PIXAR?! This can only mean two things: not only has Pixar hit rock bottom and refused to listen to their fans (there are Randall fans writing to Pixar), but this time Randall will DIE!!! Unlike the first movie, the producers will no doubt that he's dead.

3. While Randall may start out on a sour note, he's gradually changed through a person or element into a more understandable character- deeper and not the "born evil, live evil, die evil" person.

Ultimately, I'd choose scenario three.

You GO, girl! Tell it like it IS! Hopefully it will open more eyes and make people realize that Randall was NOT a "villain", and that he was just being used by Waternoose all along, given the promise of a cushy executive position in the company for his role in designing and building the prototype Scream Extractor, a promise that Waternoose never intended to keep. Randall was nothing more than an expendable tool in securing Waternoose's own fame and fortune, using the scam of an "energy crisis" that Waternoose himself probably helped create(*cough*, ENRON) as a means of manipulating the company's stocks and setting up a scenarior for him(Waternoose)to become a hero with this machine that "he" invented, after no doubt banishing or putting a hit on the REAL inventor. I'm glad you pointed out that scene in which Waternoose calmly tells the CDA that when the door arrives, they will find the REAL criminal(singular), indicating that he KNEW Randall would be on that door and that he intended, and HAD intended all along, to have Randall take the fall in case something should go wrong. His obvious shock when he saw MIKE on the door is proof enough that Mike and Sulley were NOT who he was expecting at all! Two and a half years of Randall's life were intended to come down to that, all his hopes that he'd finally get some respect and recognition for SOMETHING were to have been "rewarded" by jail or banishment or death. He was damned if he did and damned if he didn't successfully test that machine, which he believe would "revolutionize the Scaring industry"(blowing out of the water the insistence that "Randall was only in it for himself")-some villain, huh?

Amen! :salute:
By now, I've learned to just copy and paste my description on "Why Randall is not evil" in a Page (or Word Document, if your Microsoft) Document and save it there in case I run into any "Randall is evil! Evil evil evil!" people. It's works miracles....and it saves time typing.
